Dental Implants

For a long time, the health of individuals was getting compromised in the absence of healthy teeth. Conventional teeth replacements (denture) don’t provide the stability as natural teeth do. As the conventional dentures are placed on the gums they are not stable and not retained well by the individual, and with growing age and lack of nourishment leads to a very bad vicious cycle of poor health. The patient is pushed into eating food more dictated by the dentures rather than his will or taste.

Dental implants are the permanent, stable tooth replacements that can be used to replace one missing tooth or several missing teeth. We can place fixed teeth not using or disturbing the adjoining teeth. The health of remaining teeth gets enhanced.

The dental implant post, which is a screw made of titanium, is surgically placed in the jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. This replaces the missing tooth root and ensures that your dental restoration is stable.

Nowadays we can replace damaged tooth immediately by placing implants simultaneously at the time of extraction of the root, called immediate implant surgery. Dr Alok Bisht has exclusively been lecturing on this technique nationally (Indian Dental Conference, Delhi) and internationally (World Dental congress).

  • Few things to know about implants

  • Titanium metal is bioinert metal(very rare allergy reported)

  • Only metal over which bone can grow, hence oseointegration.

  • Titanium metal is as dense as steel but lighter than aluminium.

A period of healing is then often required to allow the bone to begin to bond with the biocompatible post. For lower jaw healing period of 3 months is sufficient and for upper jaw healing period is little longer. Following this healing period, our dentist will place the dental implant restoration, or replacement tooth, which fits on top of the implant post. Depending on which teeth are missing and your personal dental needs, your implant restoration might be a dental crown, bridge, complete denture, or partial denture. Each dental implant restoration (crowns or bridges) is custom made to fit your smile comfortably and aesthetically.
